The rain didn't slow anyone down Wednesday as the Panthers stormed Spring Lake to take on Maria Carrillo and Rancho Cotate.
An incredible 46 out of 64 racers set personal records (PRs)! Those who didn't PR either ran season's bests, came really close, or are recovering from injury or illness. Be patient... your times will drop too!
There are too many amazing performances to mention specifically, but there were a few JV times that stood out:
* Irma PR'd by almost 4 minutes
* Kadeja PR'd by 3:30 minutes
* Justin Dante PR'd by over 2 minutes
* Tommy "post Fondo" Lucas PR'd by 1:30 minutes
The Varsity girls had 4 out of 8 runners PR, 2 others set season's bests, and 1 come within 4 seconds of PRing. They finished 2nd to a Carrillo team that is clearly one of the top teams in all of Northern California and the class of the NBL. A strong effort from top to bottom!
The Varsity boys avenged last year's loss to Carrillo with a nail-biting 25-31 victory. It is harder to PR the faster you get, but that didn't seem to dawn on them. A hard-fought last mile resulted in a #3 all-time SRHS team time! (#15 out of all teams ever on the course). This is with two top runners coming back from illness and injury who didn't even score for us! They showed great confidence, poise, and sportsmanship.
Overall, the team is gathering steam as we head into the "meat" of the season. The NBL meets are what truly count. Now is the time to take advantage of all the stamina you are building and convert that strength into racing machines!
Go Panthers!
