Sports packets need to be turned in by Wenesday Jan 30. Please put them in my In Box in the school's main office. If you have completed a packet for another sport as SRHS then all you need do is to take care of the $50 fee. This must be done before you can participante in practice beginning Monday Feb 4. Attached is a letter from our athletic director regarding athletic packets. Spring Sport Coach I need athletic packets by next Wednesday for kids to be ready to practice on Monday Feb 4th. Only those with completed athletic packets and cleared by me can practice…It’s going to take me a few days since I am processing all spring sports. Please help me get your student athletes ready to practice by getting the athletic packets completed, transportation fee receipt attached and turned in to me by Wednesday January 30….for the first practice date of spring season Monday Feb 4. I will work all weekend if necessary to process all the athletic packets I receive on next Wednesday…if they come after next Wednesday then I will get to them when I can.

Track practaice begins Monday Feb 4 at Nevers Field. In order to practice you will have to have completed and turned in an athletic packet for this current school year that began in August 2012. Athletic packets can be picked up in the main office. You need to turn them into me. My inbox is in the lower left corner in the main office as you go to your right. It is labled " Cross Country/Track and Field". There is also the $50 fee to be dealt with. That, too, needs to be taken care of before you can begin practice. Waivers are available in the business office. There is a Family maximum of $150 for an entire school year. Even if you have paid a $50 fee for a Fall and Winter sport you still need to pay the Spring fee unless you get a waiver or your family has reached the $150 minimum. If your family has reached the maximum you still need to get the waiver. I will need to see your waiver sheet before you can practice. If you are a new transfer student to Santa Rosa High you will need to see Mr. Neally to obtain a waiver to participate. Take care of the paper work now so you don't miss the early season practices. The meet schedule is attached.
Weight training going strong. Panther attending getting stronger. Track and Field weight and agility training happens every Tuesday and Thursday in the South Gym weight room right after school. Tuesday over 50 dedicated Panther athletes showed up and on Thursday we had a slight dip to 48 participants. Coach Josh takes EVERYONE through some rigorous and beneficial work. Even Coach Doug did his knee bends on surgically repaired knees and felt his muscles work for the first time in years. Gratifying. Get a super head start on our season and be at the weight room on Tuesday and Thursday. We have 201 students signed up for our team at this time. Seems like the Track and Field Team is the place to be. Track and Field is the one sport that has members from most of the other sports at our school. Panthers moivng up. Freshman Delaney White moved to number 10 all time for Panther girls on the 3.05 Spring Lake Course first run in 1988. Her time was 18:52. Sophomore Adan Chavez moved to number 32 all time for the Panther boys with a time of 16:27 and freshman Toby Alongi moved into a 3 way tie for 44th with a sparkling 16:46. Senior Jon Ahnberg improved his number 30 standing with a personal best of 16:25.
Flaming Spandex? How about flaming Panthers. The boys team time was 81:22 the 5th fastest time on the Spring Lake Course for any Santa Rosa team since 1988. That is a 16:17 average time for the first 5. The spread time from first to fifth was an amazing 24 seconds and 43 seconds between first and sixth. While the boys weren't wearing spandex they sure were flaming as was the entire team. The girls had to reach certain times to make the trip to MtSAC and came through with more than enough people qualifying to make the trip. Pr's were abundant. Great day to be a Panther. Well it's always a great day to be a Panther but today was just a better day to be a Panther. GO PANTHERS

The new t shirts were ordered Monday and should be her week after next. I ordered 55 so there should be enough to cover everyone's order. If not I can reorder some more and it won't take as long to get the second order.

Bob Shor needs help for the Super Septo meet on Wednesday. Bob needs two people to hepl him set up the finish line on Wednesday at 2PM at the starting area (boatramp) at Spring Lake. I will have set up and marked the course before that but I have to get back to school to get our team off to the meet. Bob is having some back issues right now and can't do the setup by himself. Final Marathon instructions

Marathon Details. For those of you that will be going to Julliard Park there will be free parking at City Hall and the lot across from the post office on 2nd street. There will be parking in the neigborhood across from Julliard Park on the east side of Santa Rosa Ave but that might get taken early. A long walk isn't a bad thing. Please be there by 6. I will be there at 6 but will have to leave very quickly after that. Sean Fitzpatrick, one of our coaches, will be there also and after I leave. If you cannot find us go to the Information booth and let them know you are a volunteer from Santa Rosa High School. Thanks to all of you parents helping out. There is going to be a large crowd of runners and spectators. It should be exciting and fun. Our kids will be out on both courses(Marathon/half marathon and 5K) cheeering on the runners and giving out some of that famous Panther Pride Spirit.

Parental Help at the SR Marathon

Parents we need you. The Santa Rosa Marathon is this Sunday the 26th. We spoke about it at the preseason meeting and I know many of you expressed interest. Your job would be the lead person at the water stations. We need to meet at Julliard Park at 6AM on Sunday. The marathon people want me to give them specific names for lead parents. The job is pretty simple, fill cups and keep filling cups with water. Please let me know as soon as possible. If your are a new parent please help us out. We stand to make 3-5 thousand dollars for our water efforts. Our kids have already begun to get ready, our captains assigning teams and there is going to be intersquad competition for the best water station. Every one should be home by 2 PM on Sunday. It is really pretty simple work. I can do it. Contact me by phone at 528-0627 or email zeemie@aol.com This is a major fundraiser and will keep us going for a long time. Thanks in advance. Even if you do not want to be a lead water tableperson we could still use your help.

Where we practice

Where we practice! I am giving a brief description of the sites of our practices. You can pick up your child from any of these sites or at the school where we always return. We always begin at the school at Nevers Field for every practice at 3:15. The exceptions are the Barbecue Run on Friday Aug 17, where we will meet at noon at Nevers. If you want to go there directly that is fine. We should be done by 1:30 or thereabouts if you want to pick your child up from the park. I will bring back kids I can to the school if you don’t pick them up at the park. The other exceptions are Labor Day where we meet at the Graveyard at 10AM. Saturday runs we meet at 9AM at Howarth Park. Oak Knoll. Our most visited site. It is located at the Western end of Spring Lake Park just right of the Ranger station on Newanga which is off of the Hoen/Summerfield intersection. Follow the Spring Lake signs. Howarth Park. On Summerfield south of Montgomery Dr. The upper parking lot near Lake Ralphine. Violetti. At the northeastern end of Spring Lake Park off of Channel Dr which is off of Montgomery Dr. Cobblestone. Near to the Channel Dr entrance to Annadel State Park. Parktrail. Off of Summerfield just south of Hoen Ave. Up a block on the left. Boatramp. Just like going to Oak Knoll except you turn right at the Ranger Station and follow the road to its conclusion into a parking lot. The Graveyard. The Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery on Franklin. We run to there from school and return to school. Campus Runs. We run around the school. Any Questions please call me or email me. 528-0627 zeemie@aol.com

Camp Meeting Wrapup

Thanks to all who attendended tonight's Cross Country meeting. As always it was filled with enthusiasm and good company. Nice to see all of the new teammates and parents and of course our veterans as well. I would like to apologize to our camp counselors who I failed to mention even though you were in my first time typed notes for the meeting. Anyway Camp counselors in attendance tonight were Matt Taylor, Reesey Byers, Kelly Brooks, McKennan Bertsch and missing were Rebecca McGillivary and Tenzing Sherpa. That is one fine lineup of counselors. Our kids are very fortunate to have that group of counselors at camp. Camp will be great!

July 2012 Training Schedule

Remember these are just guidelines... not set in stone.

Most of you should be running 3-4 times week at this point. If you are a strong JV or Varsity runner, you should be running 5-6 times a week. And even if you can only get 15-20 minutes of running in, that's OK! It's more important that you train your body to think of running as part of your daily routine; pretty soon you will crave exercise and feel "off" when you don't get a run in. That's a good sign that you are making the transition from "jogger" to "runner". I only had time to get 18 minutes in this morning, but I ran it hard and I felt great afterward... ready to attack the day!
