Heading to Mt SAC

The varsity boys and girls depart Friday October 21 for Southern California to compete at MtSAC, the biggest Cross Country gathering of athletes in the world. Over a two day period MtSAC conducts nearly 100 separate races for high school runners. Most of the time there are 3 different races occuring concurrently. Our teams will be competing in one of the Division II races early Saturday morning October 22. After the race the team will head off to Disneyland for untold roller coaster rides. Doug will head up the hands up group. The runners making the trip will be seniors Evvy Archibald, Jordan Guerrero, Emily Rozga, Jonathan Peck, Marina Lecoeuche, Michael Tomasi, and Eva Herbst. Juniors going are Jonathan Ahnberg, Ellie Paul, Mikie Kennedy, Sadia Ibrahim and Cris Nazarek. Sophomores will be represented by Sarah Withers and Aden Holmes.

Panther runners have always fared well at MtSAC on the big stage of SoCal securing many medals. It should prove to be the same this year.

GO PANTHERS!

Cross Country Athletes of the Week

The league season began on Wednesday October 5 at Spring Lake. And with the onset of the North Bay League Meets we begin to recognize our Panther Runners of the Week.

Boys: David Tran. David, a senior, improved his Spring Lake by 14 seconds against Maria Carrillo and Rancho Cotate on Wednesday October 5. David followed that up with a first ever Varsity race at the Castro Valley Invitational on Saturday October 8. David never wavered during the tough hilly Castro Valley course but held his position throughout against seasoned Varsity runners from all of the other schools. David showed great determination in his Varsity debut and did himself and his team proud. Way to go David.

Girls: Emma Pierson. Emma, a freshman, improved her Spring Lake time by 43 seconds against Carrillo and Rancho on Wednesday October 5. She then came back the following Saturday at Castro Valley to lead the JV girls to a third place finish earning a team plaque and medals for the top 7 JV girl runners. Emma finished 6th overall in the race. She was 12th going into the final hill and came out 6th. Obviously the hills are to Emma's liking. Emma showed confidence in her hill running ability and also a true fighting spirit throughout the race. Good on ya Emma.
