History

Santa Rosa Cross Country has been in existence at least since 1956 when Daryl Beardall ran in Orange and Black. At that time all cross country races were limited to under 2 miles. Santa Rosa is recognized as one of the premier cross country programs in Northern California. Our team has competed in Alabama, Ohio, New York, and Canada.

Current coach Doug Courtemarche took over as head coach in 1992, following in the footsteps of Ken Goetzel and Gene DeSoto. Bob Shor has been with the team since 1994. Carrie Joseph came on as an assistant in 1997, and Sean Fitzpatrick joined the group in 2001.

Clearly you can see that you are part of a special program. Our program is not just about these “highlights” though. It is about the freshman girl who can’t break 30 minutes at Spring Lake but runs it in 22 minutes when she is a senior. It is about a sprinter (who made it to the State track championships) deciding to run cross country to stay fit, only to find himself as an integral #7 runner on a State-bound team. Now it is your turn to make your mark, create your own legacy, and go down in SRHS history.
